I've been an AT&T prepaid customer using my unlocked iPhone 4 for a couple years (even before iPhones were "officially" allowed to receive data on AT&T's prepaid plans). I previously had an AT&T contract but after living in Europe and seeing how competitive some of their markets are for prepaid plans, I converted to being a prepaid user and haven't looked back; it's far more affordable for someone who is single.
However, AT&T's pricing has deteriorated. I was previously able to use the daily plan and add a data package; they've done away with the ability to order this combination. I was then on a $25 monthly plan for voice and, I believe, was able to add the $25 data package which gave 1 or 2 GB, the data would carry over from month to month so I only had to buy data as I used it.
The pricing has now deteriorated to where I am on the $40 monthly plan which gives 500 minutes and 200 MB of data; everything is bundled together so I can't efficiently buy more data based on their current pricing. I've noticed that T-Mobile offers a $30 monthly plan with 100 minutes and 5GB of data; I use far more data than I do minutes and am just about to switch to their plan and see how it goes. Does AT&T offer anything unpublished that is similar to T-Mobile's plan, or are the prepaid plans on their website pretty much all that is available? I've had AT&T/Cingular on and off since 2002 but it looks like I'll finally be switching providers unless AT&T has something to offer that i don't know about.
Has anyone been in the same situation that I'm in and if so what did you do about it?
